Champion CA-Series S Oil-Free Rotary Scroll Air Compressors

The Champion CA-Series S is a 100% oil-free rotary scroll air compressor built for plants that cannot tolerate oil in the air stream at any concentration. There is no lubricant anywhere in the compression chamber, so the air leaving the package is oil-free by design rather than by filtration. Scroll compression has one orbiting scroll and one fixed scroll, no rubbing contact in the air path, no valves and no rings, which is why these machines run a genuine 100% duty cycle and stay quiet enough to sit in an occupied space.

This listing covers the Open Industrial packages, models CA-S3 through CA-S10, in simplex, duplex, triplex and quadraplex builds, base mounted or mounted on a horizontal ASME receiver from 30 to 240 gallons. A duplex is two complete airend and motor assemblies on one stacked frame, a triplex is three and a quadraplex is four. Flow scales with the number of pumps, so a CA-S10 quadraplex at 126.4 ACFM covers the same duty as a far larger single machine while keeping the redundancy of four independent pumps.

A starter or control panel is not included with the basic package. On base mounted simplex units the starter is supplied ship loose only. What the Configurations Mean

Base mount

The airend, motor, aftercooler and separator on a steel base, with no receiver. Choose this when you already have air storage, when you want the tank sited away from the compressor, or when you are adding capacity to an existing system. Base mount is the only configuration that accepts a remote receiver, available in 80, 120 and 240 gallon vertical, plain, vinyl lined or galvanized, with optional bypass isolation valves.

Tank mounted, horizontal receiver

The complete package mounted on a horizontal ASME receiver. Simplex units are offered on 30, 80 and 120 gallon tanks; duplex units on 80, 120 and 240 gallon tanks. Receiver coatings, vinyl (epoxy) lined or galvanized, are priced by tank size and are the right call for humid plants or any application where rust particulate in the stored air is unacceptable.

Duplex, triplex and quadraplex

Multiple complete pumps on one stacked frame sharing a single control panel. Each pump runs independently, so a failure takes out a fraction of your capacity rather than all of it, and lead/lag alternation spreads run hours evenly. This is the standard answer for a plant that cannot go down: you keep producing air while one pump is serviced. Triplex and quadraplex are base mount only and pair with the Deluxe HMI control panel.

Oil-free scroll air is specified where oil carryover is a product defect or a safety issue rather than a nuisance:

• Food and beverage processing and packaging, including direct-contact air
• Pharmaceutical manufacturing and clean rooms
• Electronics assembly, semiconductor handling and optics
• Laboratory and research air
• Textile manufacturing, printing and paint spraying where oil spotting ruins finish
• Dental and veterinary practices, and any point-of-use application near occupied space
• Plants replacing an aging oil-flooded machine and the entire oil-removal filter train behind it

Scroll packages are also quiet and low vibration enough to install in or beside the working area, which removes the cost of a dedicated compressor room on a lot of small-plant projects.

Service, Options and Accessories

Scroll maintenance is tip seals and bearings on a scheduled interval rather than oil changes, separator elements and oil filters. There is no lubricant to buy, test or dispose of, and no oil-removal filtration to maintain downstream.

• SKUs on this page are the Champion identification numbers printed in the price book: B prefix for base mount, H prefix for horizontal tank mount, D for duplex, T for triplex and Q for quadraplex. BCAS5 is a base mount CA-S5 simplex; HCAS7D-24 is a CA-S7 duplex on a 240 gallon horizontal tank.
• Rated pressure is an order-entry choice, not a separate price. 116 PSIG and 140 PSIG packages list identically. Tell us which you need and we will configure it.
• Voltage is an order-entry choice on CA-S3, CA-S5 and CA-S7. Single phase and three phase list at the same price, so voltage does not appear as a separate variant. CA-S10 is three phase only.
• Weights are the Champion published estimated weights for each configuration. They are real book figures, not estimates of ours.
