Odor and Oil Vapor Removal Filters
Adsorbing filters are designed to remove vapors from the airline that a coalescing filter cannot remove. They produce air free of oil and hydrocarbons, as industries such as food processing, electronics, and instrumentation require.
These are activated carbon adsorption elements, built to sit downstream of a coalescing filter in the treatment train. A coalescing filter pulls liquid and aerosol oil down to sub-micron levels, but it cannot touch oil vapor that stays in the gas phase. The carbon bed in an adsorbing filter is what catches that vapor, the last step between a compressor and air that is genuinely free of oil taste and smell.
Replace the element on a schedule rather than waiting for a smell to return, since a carbon bed loses capacity gradually and gives no pressure drop warning the way a particulate element does. Match the element to your housing and rated flow, and keep it paired with the rest of your air filters so particulate and liquid oil do not load the carbon bed before its time.
