What a belt-drive single stage gives you

Ambient air is drawn through the intake filter, compressed in one piston stroke, and pushed into the receiver before it reaches the tool. Belt drive is the reason the machine runs quieter and with less maintenance than a direct drive of the same size: the motor turns the pump through a belt rather than spinning it at motor speed, so the pump sees lower RPM and less heat. ABAC builds the pump in aluminum for fast heat dissipation and fits pressure-centered valves, and the fully enclosed belt guard keeps the drive covered without blocking cooling airflow. At 150 lbs on wheels this is still a machine one person moves, which is the whole point of the 24 gallon vertical format.

Choosing your supply voltage

The AB-224VP leaves the factory wired for 115V single phase, which is the reason most buyers choose it: no electrician, no new circuit, just the outlet already on the wall. A 2 HP motor pulls hard at startup on 115V, so give it a dedicated circuit and keep extension cords short and heavy gauge. A long, light cord is the usual cause of slow starts and nuisance breaker trips on a portable machine of this size, and it is almost always the cord rather than the compressor. Where a 230V single-phase outlet is available at the spot the machine actually lives, converting is worth doing: the same work at twice the voltage means roughly half the current, so the motor starts easier and runs cooler. Have a qualified electrician make the changeover and match the plug and breaker to the motor nameplate.

How it compares
