200 PSI air compressors: high pressure towables and jobsite units
Air at 200 PSI serves two very different buyers. On the jobsite, high pressure towable rotary screws feed down the hole hammers for rock drilling, water well drilling and geothermal work, where the hammer needs 150 to 200 PSI at the bit. In the shop and on the truck, small 200 to 225 PSI hand carry compressors store more air in a small tank so a framing or roofing crew gets more nail shots between pump cycles. Both groups are listed here because both run at 200 PSI class pressures.
What is on this page
Chicago Pneumatic CPS 400-200 MP towable, a 400 CFM class machine with pressure control up to 200 PSI on a Kohler engine, and the Chicago Pneumatic CPS 750-200 MP, 785 CFM at up to 200 PSI on a Cummins engine for large drill rigs and blasting. DeWalt D55146 4.5 gallon 200 to 225 PSI, D55168 15 gallon 200 PSI and DWFP55130 2.5 gallon 200 PSI quiet oil free units for trim, framing and service work.
Notes
Most air tools, hoses and quick couplers are rated for 150 PSI working pressure or less, so a 200 PSI compressor only helps if the regulator brings line pressure down before the hose, or the tool and hose are rated for it. Drill rigs use dedicated high pressure hose with whip checks. The small DeWalt units regulate down to tool pressure at the outlet; their 200 PSI is tank storage, and the number to size on is the CFM at 90 PSI. For 150 PSI and under, see the 175 PSI and 150 PSI pages, which carry the bulk of our stationary catalog. For towables by output, see the 185, 250 and 375 CFM pages.
