This page lists stationary rotary screw compressors rated roughly 193 to 224 CFM. All of them are plant machines: the Atlas Copco GA37 50 HP at 219 CFM and 150 PSI, the GA30 40 HP at 195 CFM and 100 PSI, the GA30 VSD 40 HP at 208 CFM, the GA22 and GA26 VSDS 30 and 35 HP at 208 CFM and 150 PSI, and the Chicago Pneumatic CPCG 50 HP gear driven screw at 219 CFM in 100, 125, 150 and 175 PSI builds. Most are offered with or without an integrated refrigerated dryer.
What 200 CFM supports
200 CFM runs a mid size production plant: 55 to 70 general air stations, a body shop with three or four spray booths, a CNC machining floor with pneumatic chucks and blow off, or a woodworking plant with several sanders and a dust handling system. It also covers a 5/16 inch sandblast nozzle at 100 PSI with air to spare.
Fixed speed or variable speed
The GA30, GA37 and CPCG 50 are fixed speed machines. They make sense when the plant runs near full load on every shift. The GA30 VSD and the GA22 and GA26 VSDS units change airend speed to follow demand and usually cut power 20 to 30 percent in a plant that idles at nights and weekends or swings between shifts. The VSDS units also hold 150 PSI across the whole speed range, which matters for long pipe runs and high pressure tooling.
Why the horsepower spread is so wide
Three ratings on this page make about 208 CFM from 30, 35 and 40 HP. The difference is pressure. Compare machines at the pressure you actually need, not at the nameplate CFM.
Power and installation
A 50 HP motor draws about 65 amps at 460 volt three phase or 130 amps at 230 volt; a 40 HP motor draws about 52 amps at 460 volt. Plan on a dedicated feeder and disconnect, a compressor room with ducted or louvered cooling air, and a receiver of at least 240 gallons.
Dryer sizing
The dryer included options on this page are sized to the compressor. If you buy a bare unit, pair it with a 250 CFM refrigerated air dryer, or a cycling dryer if plant load varies. Instrument air and paint lines need a desiccant dryer after the refrigerated unit.
