CPCg Gear Driven Rotary Screw Air Compressor By Chicago Pneumatic

The Chicago Pneumatic CPCg is a fixed speed, gear driven rotary screw air compressor in 40, 50 and 60 HP frames delivering 180, 219 and 263 CFM. Gear drive couples the motor to the air end through a sealed gearbox instead of a belt, so there is no belt tension to check, no belt dust in the cabinet and no slip as the belt ages. It is the plant duty step up from the belt driven CPB and CPM lines.

Who it is for. Manufacturing plants, fabrication shops, tire plants, bottling and packaging lines and any facility with a steady base load in the 150 to 250 CFM range. A fixed speed screw is the most efficient choice when the machine runs loaded most of the time; if demand swings widely through the shift, look at the CPVSd variable speed line instead. It replaces older 40 to 60 HP belt driven screws, worn out duplex piston packages and rental units.

Configurations. Each frame is offered at 100, 125, 150 or 175 PSI, in 230 V or 460 V three phase, with or without an integrated refrigerated dryer. Order the lowest pressure that covers the plant; every 10 PSI of extra pressure costs about 5 percent in power and shortens service life. All units are base mounted and need a separate receiver.

Install and power notes. These ship by truck freight on a skid and need a forklift to unload. Plan the pad with service clearance on the door side and cooling air in and out of the cabinet; a 60 HP unit in a closed room needs exhaust ducting or a thermostatic fan. The electrical feed is sized to the nameplate amps at your voltage; a 230 V 60 HP draws roughly twice the current of the 460 V version, so the 460 V unit is cheaper to wire where it is available.

What to pair it with. A receiver of 400 to 660 gallons (about 2 to 3 gallons per CFM), a refrigerated dryer if you take the no dryer version, inlet and coalescing filters, a zero loss drain and a piping system sized for 263 CFM at the 60 HP size.
