Champion 10 HP RV Series Splash Lubricated Electric Stationary Reciprocating Air Compressor

The Champion RV Series 10 HP is a two stage, splash lubricated piston compressor for shops that have outgrown a 7.5 HP: body shops with two or three techs on the air at once, tire and lube bays, fabrication shops, farm equipment dealers and small manufacturing. It delivers 32 CFM at 175 PSI from an 1800 RPM pump on a 120 gallon receiver, with a mounted NEMA 1 magnetic starter and start/stop pressure switch control. Every version on this page is three phase; if you only have single phase service, the 7.5 HP RV Series is the largest Champion RV that runs on 230 V single phase.

Picking the right version

Tank. The VRV10-12 is a 120 gallon vertical, the smallest footprint for a 10 HP. The HRV10-12 is the same package on a 120 gallon horizontal receiver, which gives you a flat deck to mount a dryer and filters on and sits under a low ceiling.

Power. 208/230 V or 460 V three phase. The starter is already mounted and wired to the motor, so the electrician brings one feed to the starter and is done. Confirm the voltage before ordering; the motor and starter are built to order and cannot be swapped afterwards. A 10 HP three phase motor draws roughly 28 A at 230 V and 14 A at 460 V at full load, so plan the breaker and wire for that.

Options. The air cooled aftercooler drops the discharge temperature and knocks out most of the water before it reaches the tank, which cuts the load on your dryer and keeps the receiver drier. Low oil stop control shuts the compressor down before a low crankcase level damages the pump. Order either, both, or neither.

What to pair it with

For dry air at the tool, add a refrigerated dryer rated at 40 CFM or more, such as the Quincy QPNC 42 CFM or a cycling dryer if the load varies through the day, followed by a coalescing filter. A regulator at each drop brings 175 PSI tank air down to what the tool wants. An automatic tank drain such as the EZ-12 zero loss drain replaces the daily manual drain.
