The Morganton VES0010059 is a 10 gallon ASME code horizontal air receiver rated for 200 PSI, on two welded feet. Ten gallons is not a compressor room tank; it is the size you bolt under a service truck bed, onto a gas drive or utility mount compressor frame, or at the far end of a long air line where a tool keeps starving on the last few feet of pipe. It is also the right surge tank for a 1 to 2 HP pump that has outgrown its original receiver. Buy it to replace a rusted out small tank, to build a compact portable unit from a bare pump and motor, or to add point of use storage without running bigger pipe.

Sizing and fit

As a primary receiver, 10 gallons suits pumps up to about 3 to 4 CFM, which is the 1 HP to 2 HP range. As auxiliary storage it works behind any compressor: it does not change the compressor duty cycle, it just gives an impact wrench or a blow gun a reserve to draw on so pressure at the tool does not sag. What to add to the tank

Receivers ship bare. Fit a safety relief valve and pressure gauge kit rated at or below the tank working pressure before it goes into service, and put a drain on the bottom port. On a truck or portable unit a manual ball valve drain is fine as long as someone opens it daily; in a fixed installation a timer or float drain keeps water out of the line without anyone remembering. Installation

Bolt the feet down through rubber pads to keep vibration out of the welds, keep the drain port at the low point and reachable, and if the tank sits behind a compressor on a vehicle, run the discharge line with a check valve so the tank does not bleed back through the pump.
