Why 175 PSI costs airflow

A screw air end turns the same displacement whatever pressure you ask of it, so every step up in discharge pressure takes volume off the top. In this cabinet that is 52.1 CFM at 125 PSI, 46.4 CFM at 150 PSI and 41.7 CFM here at 175 PSI, all from the same 15 HP motor. Specify 175 PSI when a tool or a process genuinely needs it, for example an air over hydraulic press, a high pressure blow off, or a long distribution run that arrives at the bench well below the compressor setpoint. Buying the pressure as headroom costs you a fifth of the air for nothing.

Why the tank is part of the machine

A rotary screw is built to run continuously, so the receiver is not there to give the compressor a rest the way a piston machine's tank is. It is there to absorb short bursts of demand, to hold line pressure steady when several tools trigger at once, and to knock condensate out of the air before it reaches your piping. Buying the tank already mounted removes the sizing question, the second footprint and the interconnecting pipe.
