The Champion RV Series 7.5 HP is a two stage, splash lubricated piston compressor built for shops that run air all day: automotive repair, tire and lube bays, body shops, fabrication, farm shops and small manufacturing. It is the step up from a 5 HP single stage when the impact guns, DA sanders and blast cabinet start outrunning the tank. Every version on this page is a 7.5 HP tank mounted simplex rated for 175 PSI maximum working pressure, with a mounted NEMA 1 magnetic starter and start/stop pressure switch control.
Picking the right version
Pump speed. The VRV7 pump runs at 1800 RPM and delivers 24 CFM at 175 PSI. The VRV7F runs at 3600 RPM for 22.1 CFM and a lower price. The 1800 RPM pump runs cooler and quieter and generally sees longer valve and ring life, so it is the better choice for a compressor that will cycle all shift. The 3600 RPM pump is a sensible pick for intermittent duty where price matters more.
Tank. The 80 gallon vertical has the smallest footprint. The 120 gallon vertical or horizontal adds storage for high draw tools and lets the pump cycle less often. A horizontal tank also gives you a flat deck for mounting a dryer and filters.
Power. 208/230 V single phase covers most shops without three phase service. 208/230 V or 460 V three phase is available where you have it. Because the starter is already mounted, your electrician wires the starter directly; there is nothing else to buy. Confirm voltage and phase before ordering, since the motor and starter are built to order and cannot be swapped after the fact.
Options. The air cooled aftercooler drops discharge temperature and knocks out most of the water before it reaches the tank and your piping, which is worth having on any unit that feeds paint guns or air tools. Low oil stop control shuts the compressor down before a low crankcase level damages the pump. Order either, both, or neither.
What to pair it with
For dry air at the tool, add a refrigerated air dryer rated at 25 CFM or more and a coalescing filter after it. A regulator at each drop brings 175 PSI tank air down to what the tool wants. An automatic tank drain such as the EZ-12 zero loss drain replaces the daily manual drain. Replacement filters, oil and parts are in the Champion collection. Need more air? See the 10 HP and 15 HP units in 5 to 15 HP piston compressors, or compare every 7.5 HP compressor we carry.
