The ABAC AB5-2180V4FF is the Full Feature build of the 80 gallon vertical AB5 platform. The two-stage PAT 49 pump pairs an aluminum head and aftercooler with cast iron cylinders, so heat and moisture are pulled out of the air before it reaches the tank, and the FF specification adds a pressure-actuated automatic tank drain and a low oil level switch. It delivers 14.6 CFM at a maximum 175 PSI on 230V single-phase power.

What the Full Feature spec buys you
Two of the jobs on a compressor's daily checklist are draining condensate out of the tank and confirming the crankcase still has oil in it. Both get skipped in a busy shop, and both are expensive when they are. Water left standing in an 80 gallon receiver rusts it from the inside and carries moisture down the line into air tools and spray work. Running a two-stage pump low on oil ends it. The FF build automates the first with a pressure-actuated drain that blows the tank down on its own, and guards the second with a low oil level switch that stops the machine rather than letting it run dry. That is the whole difference between this unit and the standard AB5-2180V4, and it is the reason to pay for it anywhere nobody is specifically assigned to the compressor.
Standard features
Every machine in ABAC's 2-Stage Hybrid Pro range shares the same core build: cast iron cylinders under an aluminum head, an aluminum aftercooler, an ASME coded tank with safety valves, a fully enclosed belt guard that protects the operator and routes cooling air across the pump, and start and stop pressure switch control. ABAC calls the pump hybrid because the aluminum manages heat while the cast iron cylinders take the wear, and the inner cooling design is what holds operating temperature down through a long duty cycle. The units are assembled in the USA and carry a 2 year full warranty.
How it compares
The three 80 gallon AB5 models all deliver the same 14.6 CFM at 175 PSI, so the decision is about what comes fitted. The AB5-2180V4NS ships without a magnetic starter, the AB5-2180V4 includes one, and this FF build is specified with the automatic tank drain and the low oil level switch. Where floor space matters more than stored air, the 60 gallon AB5-2160V4 runs the same pump on a smaller footprint. If the shop needs more air rather than more automation, the AB5-2180VPFF is the same 5 HP in Full Feature trim with the T39 pump for 16.6 CFM, and the 7.5 HP AB7-2180VFF steps up to 22.2 CFM on the same 80 gallon vertical tank. Where noise is the constraint instead, the enclosed AB5-2180VQP Quiet Power delivers 16.6 CFM at 66 dBA.
Typical applications
ABAC rates the Hybrid Pro range for air and water spraying, impact wrenching, screwing, hammering, grinding, fastening, orbital sanding, equipment operation and tire inflation. In practice that means body shops, woodworking shops, farm and agricultural buildings, and general maintenance bays where the compressor is called on through most of the shift rather than in short bursts. At 14.6 CFM it will keep one operator going on sanding or spray work, or feed several intermittent tools across a bay, and the 80 gallon receiver carries the surge so the pump is not restarting on every trigger pull. The vertical tank puts that capacity against a wall instead of across the floor, which is usually what decides between this and a horizontal machine.
Two-stage compressors push warm, wet air into the line, so most shops add a refrigerated dryer rated above the compressor's 14.6 CFM output, such as the ABAC COOL 25. Browse the rest of our piston air compressors and our compressed air dryers.
