This GR 2 coalescing element is a replacement cartridge for domnick hunter filter housings that take the K025PL element. It is a like-for-like service part, so a housing already installed in the line can be brought back to its original filtration duty by swapping the cartridge alone.
Coalescing filtration works mechanically. The air stream is pushed through a fine media pack where oil and water aerosol collide and merge into drops large enough to fall out of suspension, then drain to the bottom of the bowl for the drain to clear. The grade designation, GR 2 in this case, describes how fine that media pack is. A coarser grade lasts longer but passes more, and a finer grade catches more but loads faster.
