This air/oil separator is supplied as an equivalent replacement for Chicago Pneumatic part number 6221-3383-00. It is the element that recovers lubricating oil from the compressed air stream inside a rotary screw compressor before that air leaves the package.
Separators wear on a schedule rather than failing outright. As the media fills, pressure drop across the separator rises and oil carryover into the air system increases, which is why service intervals are set on running hours. Changing the separator together with the oil and the oil filter keeps the lubrication loop consistent.
