The Atlas Copco G2, G4, G5 and G7 are 3 to 10 HP oil injected, belt driven rotary screw compressors for shops that have outgrown a piston machine or are tired of listening to one. Pick a G series when the compressor runs more than about four hours a day, when the noise of a two stage piston is a problem in the building, or when you want an integrated refrigerated dryer in the same cabinet. Typical buyers are automotive and tire shops, cabinet and sign shops, dental and lab suppliers, small fabrication, and packaging lines.
How to pick a model
Match the CFM to your tool load with 20 to 30 percent headroom: the G2 (3 HP) delivers 12.7 CFM at 116 PSI or 9.3 CFM at 145 PSI; the G4 (5.5 HP) 18.6 or 16.7 CFM; the G5 (7.5 HP) 28.4 or 25.2 CFM; the G7 (10 HP) 32.8 or 31.1 CFM. Choose the 116 PSI build unless you have a tool that needs more than 100 PSI at the inlet, since the 145 PSI build gives up flow. Choose base mounted if you already own a receiver, or the 53 gallon tank mounted version for a complete package. Order with dryer if you need dry air at the tool and do not have room for a separate dryer; otherwise a stand alone refrigerated dryer is easier to service.
Power and install
The G2 through G5 are offered in 230 V single phase as well as 208 to 230 V or 460 V three phase; the G7 is three phase only. A rotary screw wants a cool, clean room with the cooling air exhaust ducted away or at least not recirculated. Allow about three feet of service clearance at the front and keep the ambient under 115 F. Pipe out through a flex connector into a receiver of at least 60 gallons on base mounted units, then into filtration and the shop loop. These units are built for continuous duty, but short cycling on a tiny receiver will still wear them, so do not skimp on storage.
What to pair it with
A coalescing filter after the dryer, a zero loss drain on the receiver, and Atlas Copco service kits on the maintenance schedule. Compare the larger G7L-15 and G15L-22 in Atlas Copco rotary screws, or every rotary screw under 20 HP we carry.
More about the G 2 to 7 series
3–10HP Rotary Screw Compressors: options with Integrated Dryer and Tanks
Atlas Copco compressors are legendary for their reliability and efficiency. Our G series has long been the preferred air solution for small and medium-sized businesses. The G 2-7 VSD, the G 2-7, the G 7L-15, and the G 15L-22 simply check all the boxes. Whether you need a G5 air compressor, a G15L air compressor, or anything in between, we have you covered.
The Atlas Copco G 2–7 series is a compact, quiet, oil-injected rotary screw compressor lineup built for real-world shop use. Compared to piston compressors, these units are typically quieter, cleaner, and more economical, while handling longer run times with consistent airflow. With multiple configurations, Pack, Full Feature (integrated dryer), and tank-mounted options, you can match the compressor to your footprint, air quality needs, and daily workload.
Built in Reliability
Atlas Copco’s trusted rotary screw technology is engineered for steady, dependable performance you can count on every day. The G 2–7 series is designed for continuous operation and built with proven components that help reduce downtime and extend service life.
Key reliability advantages include:
- A robust rotary screw design suited for longer duty cycles than many piston compressors
- A complete package engineered to run in ambient temperatures up to 46°C / 115°F
- VSD models with gradual start-up to reduce stress on key components and lower starting current
If your shop depends on compressed air for production, fabrication, automotive work, or general maintenance, reliability isn’t optional, it’s the foundation of profitability.
Top Performance
The G 2–7 series delivers smooth, consistent compressed air with the efficiency rotary screw compressors are known for. These compressors are built to support real working environments where stable pressure and low noise matter.
Performance highlights:
- Quiet operation supported by a belt-driven design that helps keep vibration low
- Consistent airflow delivery for day-to-day tool and equipment demands
- G 2–7 VSD models that help maintain more stable pressure as demand changes
Full Feature versions add built-in air treatment in a compact package, which can help protect tools, improve process quality, and reduce moisture-related issues in air lines.
State of the art connectivity
Modern compressed air systems shouldn’t be a mystery. The G 2–7 series brings smarter control and monitoring so you can stay on top of performance, efficiency, and uptime.
Connectivity and control benefits include:
- Bluetooth-enabled monitoring on supported controls for convenient access
- Visibility into critical operating data like pressure, temperature, running hours, and operating mode
- Smart control features such as Delayed Second Stop to support efficiency and reliability
- Built-in tools like leakage detection to uncover wasted energy in your compressed air system
- Notifications that help you respond quickly and avoid surprise downtime
This kind of visibility is especially valuable for small businesses that can’t afford to lose a day of production because a compressor issue went unnoticed.
Easy Installation and Maintenance
The G 2–7 series is designed to fit where you need it and stay easy to own over the long haul. Its compact footprint and flexible configurations make it a strong choice for shops where space is limited and service time needs to stay minimal.
Installation and layout advantages:
- Available in multiple configurations, including floor-mounted or tank-mounted
- Options with or without an integrated refrigerant dryer to match your air quality requirements
- Compact footprint with airflow management that supports placement against a wall or in a corner
Maintenance-friendly design details:
- Key components are positioned for quick access during routine service
- Filters and separators are designed to be reachable without unnecessary disassembly
- Service tasks are streamlined to help reduce downtime and keep operating costs predictable
Robust and Efficient Compression Element
At the heart of every G 2–7 compressor is Atlas Copco’s proven rotary screw compression element, built to deliver strong free air delivery with dependable, long-term performance.
Why the compression element matters:
- Efficient air compression that helps reduce energy consumption over time
- Reliable design built for steady performance across long operating hours
- High-quality engineering that supports low total cost of ownership
Because the compression element is the core of the machine, a well-designed element is one of the biggest reasons rotary screw compressors outperform piston compressors in demanding, everyday use.
Configuration Options
The G 2–7 series is available in setups that let you choose the balance of footprint, air quality, and storage capacity that makes sense for your shop.
Common configuration choices include:
- Pack (no dryer): ideal when you already have air treatment or your application doesn’t require dry air
- Full Feature (integrated dryer): a compact all-in-one option to help reduce moisture in the air system
- Tank-mounted packages: combine compressor and receiver tank for a clean, integrated footprint
Ideal Applications
The Atlas Copco G 2–7 series is a strong fit for:
- Automotive and light industrial shops running impact tools, blow guns, and tire equipment
- Fabrication and welding environments needing reliable shop air all day
- Woodworking and finishing setups where stable airflow supports consistent results
- Small manufacturing operations looking to upgrade from piston compressors
- Any workspace needing a quiet, compact compressor near the point of use
Why the Atlas Copco G 2–7 Series is a Smart Upgrade
