Refrigerated Cycling Dryers

Cycling dryers are designed to cycle the refrigeration on and off as needed to conserve energy and prevent excessive refrigeration when not being used. Cycling can also prevent frost build-up if the unit needs to run for an extended period.

Refrigerated Cycling Dryers For Compressed Air

Unlike non-cycling dryers, this equipment uses additional components, including thermal mass and frequency controllers. These integrations allow a cycling dryer to turn on and off based on compressed air demand.

Since these machines adapt to use and application, they’re more energy efficient than a non-cycling dryer. They also have a customer-oriented design and offer high performance and reliability. While the initial cost of a cycling dryer is slightly higher than that of a non-cycling dryer, it’s a worthwhile investment. Cycling dryers are very reliable, offer easy installation, produce minimal noise, and run efficiently. They are ideal if you’re concerned about energy costs.

Due to their advantages, a cycling dryer benefits any compressed air system. This point is especially true when considering the overall life-cycle cost of your set-up. This equipment is the right choice if your applications need fluctuating air demand.

These machines are great for middle-ground applications that may run for a long time but do not have extremely high demand or operate for longer durations with typical flow. The technology in these dryers will be able to keep up with your demand as long as they are sized properly.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS TO BE AWARE OF

Maximum Pressure

-Your dryer’s maximum pressure must equal or exceed your compressor’s maximum pressure.

Inlet Temperature

– Each dryer has its specified maximum inlet temperature; surpassing this can damage your equipment. If your compressor has an aftercooler, it will make sure the compressed air is at a reasonable temperature.

Maximum Flow

This refers to the maximum amount of air that can pass through your dryer. If your dryer is undersized, this can cause significant pressure drops because the air cannot pass through.

Maximum Room Temperature

-When using your equipment, consider your environment. If it’s hot outside, you risk overheating your dryer. Just ensure your ambient air temperature is above 20ºF below your max inlet temperature.

Refrigerant air dryers are the ideal solution for situations that:

  • The ambient temperature is less than 50°C/122°F,
  • The goal is to prevent condensation,
  • The required pressure dew point is around 3°C-4°C/37°F-39°F.

Although these units might cost a little bit more upfront, the cost difference will be returned within a few months from energy savings. Cool your compressed air without wasting energy by capitalizing on the natural variance within your system.

By including refrigerated cycling air dryers, you can run for longer periods of time with less frost buildup and less energy usage, resulting in a more efficient compressed air system.
