Approved Concept Art For The BaCKUP Car
See below the “backup car” design for the No. 38 Ford at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 26, 2024.
Each race weekend NASCAR allows teams to bring one backup car to the track in case something happens to the primary car during a practice session or qualifying run the day(s) prior to race day. And the backup car is then used on race day.
NASCAR allows Front Row Motorsports to bring only one backup car to track, shared between its two Cup teams. It’s wrapped all-white with no decals / branding on it, so they can apply those elements depending on which team (#34 or #38) scheme is needed.
Front Row Motorsports has a very limited amount of time to get the backup car race ready. Such as: swap in race-specific parts, prep the engine, check for leaks, go through tech inspections, and apply the exterior vinyl / decals.

Meet The Driver Behind FRM’s #38, Todd Gilliland
Todd Gilliland is returning to the no. 38 Front Row Motorsports Ford Mustang Dark Horse for the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series. He jumped to the Cup Series from the Truck Series in 2022 and scored his first top-five finish at Indianapolis. Gilliland earned this opportunity through his repeated success in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, where he also drove the no. 38.
As the son of former NASCAR Cup Series competitor David Gilliland, Todd’s DNA is racing, and he has the track record to prove it. Gilliand has led the second-most laps for Ford this season, and we are confident he will continue to improve. Ford took home the trophy last year, and this year, we are optimistically looking forward to a repeat, just with the No. 38 car instead.
He previously drove for Kyle Busch Motorsports, where he scored his first series win in 2019 at Martinsville. He added a third, driving for his father, in June 2022 at Knoxville Raceway. Gilliland is a two-time K&N Pro Series West champion, winning back-to-back titles in 2016-2017. Running the full-time season in both the ARCA Menards Series West and ARCA Menards Series East in 2017, Gilliland earned six West victories and four East victories.
Todd has been a consistent racer for FRM during his first two seasons, and this year is looking no different. With intense races and consistent placement this season, such as his top-10 finish at Talladega Superspeedway, we are proud to be able to support Todd Gilliland and the no. 38. We have high hopes for Todd and the team this Memorial Day Weekend.
